The Romsey Astronomical Society was founded in 2007 by local amateur astronomer, David Scanlan. After over 25 years in the astronomical community he decided to establish an organisation in the Romsey area to promote the science of astronomy throughout the local community,
In 2013 a committee was voted in and the running of the group was divided between three main roles within the society. The President/Director, The Secretary and The treasurer.
The society has a very simple aim which is to promote and encourage people to discover the universe around them, to make observations of the universe and to reach as many interested and like minded peoples as possible. To achieve these aims we run regular observing sessions where members can observe using the groups range of telescopes and binoculars, offer a free advice service for people starting out in astronomy and to arrange the occasional talk or lecture from an eminent person in the astronomical community.
